I started In My Shoes to tell my story, an African American mom raising a child with special needs with multiple diagnoses, including a mental illness. I didn't see many women who looked like me, talking about what I was going through. Along the way, I've realized that I am not the only one with a story to tell - that there are women of color on their own fascinating journey and hearing about it could be an inspiration to someone else.
There is power in telling our story, standing in our truth and almost always, you find that there are many who can relate, who just needed someone to open the door and start the conversation.
I have also come to realize that many of us don't take the time to nourish ourselves on this journey, making sure that we take the time we need just for us - that struggle is real!
In My Shoes is a place for women of color to hear stories from women who look like them, who understand that oftentimes our gender AND skin color impact nearly every aspect of our lives. It has also become a place of encouragement, inspiring women to find ways to express what life is like in their shoes - whether it's the podcast, blog, self-care journals or other inspirational products, we are here to uplift and encourage YOU.
